I draw on my abuse and trauma experience for every book I write–it’s important to me to encourage healing and hope, and to break silence–but I also write to entertain and to move people. Just something about a rabbit, a tea party, and a lot of blood. She doesn’t remember why she’s there or how she got the scar. Picture this: Alice is a patient in an asylum with a cruel scar running from mouth to ear. They’re amazing! And I’m so grateful because this story was brilliant. Ace was kind enough to mail me a physical copy of Alice and will be partnering with me for a giveaway. I requested Red Queen on Netgalley, not realizing it was the 2nd part. ![]() The Chronicles of Alice is a duology, the first part entitled Alice and the second part entitled Red Queen. ![]() Even the parts that made me squirm.įirst, I’d like to thank the staff at Ace for allowing me to review this. He relieved Hugh Auld from the responsibility of clothing, feeding, and finding work for him. Douglass adds that the underground railroad (an organized system of cooperation among abolitionists helping fugitive slaves escape to the North or Canada) should be called the "upperground railroad," and he honors "those good men and women for their noble daring, and applauds them for willingly subjecting themselves to bloody persecution," but he states emphatically that he is adamantly opposed to anyone revealing the means whereby slaves escape.ĭouglass says that he needed money to escape, so he proposed to Hugh Auld that he "hire his time." In return for a set amount per week, Douglass gained the liberty of finding work anything he made over the amount he promised to Auld was his to keep. ![]() He explains that his method of escape is still used by other slaves and thus he doesn't want to publicize it.
